Dear Dr. Richison,
Thank you so much for the thoughts on "contentment". My niece in KY and I are doing a "Bible study" over the telephone every Thursday morning.
We just started this two weeks ago, because her good friend, who met with her every Thursday at a coffee shop to discuss a passage or a verse or to share and pray, moved to Texas a year ago. She has been trying to find someone to take Chris's place. When I offered to take the time by phone, Kim agreed. It's been a blessing.
My first suggestions were Psalm 148 ands Psalm 139. Next week we are sharing thoughts on Phil. 4:11, Heb. 13:5 and Psallm 16:11, all verses about contentment. I've already read a sermon by Charles C. Spurgeon about "contentment" and it was rich and deep. I just chose yours for some other thoughts to share and those will probably be sufficient. I don't want to sound like a theologian to her. We each share what the Lord lays on our hearts.
Kim's parents moved from WV to her home in October two years. By Febuary, her mom, my sister, had died. She was in poor health anyway. one year and three months later, Kim's father died. Kim and Mike had lived all over the country because of Mike's Army career, so they were unable to settle down with Kim's parents. By the time they did settle, her parents health was failing, but the home was built to have enough room for them.
Kim was an only child. Her daughter just got married this month and her son is in college. Mike travels in his work, sometimes 4-5 days at a time, so Kim and little "Jack" he Jack Russel are pretty much in that big, beautiful home by themselves.
Thank you for allowing me to share all this. If the Lord brings her to your mind, just take a minute and say, "Lord, please comfort Kim and meet her needs."
Thank you and may God continue to spread your ministry to those who need it and will appreciate it.
