Rajesh, thanks for your blog.

The basis of God's election is whether a person accepts the drawing, influencing, introducing circumstances and people into his life, introduction of Christians into his life, etc by God to accept the substitutionary death of Christ for sins. In other words, God sovereignly, thoroughly influences an individual to come to Himself (Jn 16:8f; Jn 6:37). In this sense, a person cannot come to God on his own insight; he has no autonomous power to come to God apart from God's work on his life but in the end he has the choice to accept or reject God's work on his life.

Man's choice is highly delimited to God's "drawing." The reasons people come to Christ are mostly unseen. We see only the tip of the iceberg of God's sovereign working on their lives. God uses cancer, reversals, blessings, people, and many other agencies for doing this.

Re your second question. Yes, man is dead in trespasses and sins and cannot come to God on his own. That is why the overwhelming dimensions of a person's coming to Christ is God's initiative.

Thank you for clarifying the terms election. In the final illustration you seem to be saying that even if God elects people have still choice to choose either way. But calvinists (not all) say that all elect will be saved.

Please answer these 2 questions?

What basis God elects?
Ephesians 2nd chapter - we were dead in transgressions - is it total depravity (explain?)
