Its does seem very plausible that the spirits in prison were indeed the angels from Genesis 6. However, I can see somewhat of a connection with Isaiah 61:1........ "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound" The word "preached" in 1 Peter 3:9 could be translated "proclaim" so some feel this is the righteous people in hades (bosom of Abraham) that Christ brought to heaven in Ephesians 4:8-9 There are just so many ways you can look at that verse.....its hard to be certain I have been racking my brain over this verse.
