Lourdes, There is nothing in the Bible against eating meat. The case in Daniel was not normative. There are not "many" passages that support vegetarianism. Nowhere does this passage indicate that vegetarianism should be normative for succeeding generations. Jesus Himself cooked and ate fish and lamb (Lu 22:8-15); it was part of the Passover meal. Israel as a nation celebrated the Passover by eating meat sacrificed on the altar. In Genesis 9 God gives people permission to eat meat. Romans 14 and 1 Cor 8-10 indicate that it is right to eat meat sacrificed to idols except for offending a believer who has a conscience against it. Ro 14:2 "One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables." In other words, the Bible depicts a vegetarian as a person who is the weaker brother.

With that said, there is nothing wrong with a person who desires to be a vegetarian as Ro 14 indicates.

I agree with April. This is an example of the Bible giving pragmatic instruction about many aspects of life, including that eating meat is unhealthy. There are many other such examples in the Bible. For example:

Daniel 1: 11 “So Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12 ‘Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants.’ 14 So he consented with them in this matter, and tested them ten days. 15 And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies. 16 Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.”

By the way, Adam and Eve were raw vegans.

Pastor Nwagbaoso, did you know that you can get daily devotions by signing up on the front page right column? Also, go to "Select a Book" then when "Select a Passage" comes up, you can choose chapter and verse (3,000 studies of 6000 pages).

April, the idea that this is dealing with meat as unhealthy is an interpolation of the text. Grant
