Read Introduction to Colossians

“Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.”

“in all things”

God expects total obedience from children. There is no exception to obedience to the parents–”in all things.” The Greek implies that this means “according to the standard of all things.” Compliance with the standards (policies) of the parent should be without exception.

Principle:

God expects total obedience to the parent.

Application:

Partial obedience by the child does not please God, for it leaves a margin for us to do our own thing. God wants to plug all disobedient loopholes.

It is easy to obey our parents when the demand is agreeable to our desires and convenience. What if Jesus obeyed the Father in all things except the cross? Our sins would not have been forgiven.
