Read Introduction to 2 Peter

“For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.”

of our Lord Jesus Christ

This is the seventh time Peter mentions Jesus’ name in this chapter. The Holy Spirit loves to exalt the Lord Jesus. The Holy Spirit says more about the Lord Jesus than He does Himself. The main purpose of the Holy Spirit is to “glorify” Jesus (Jn 15:26; 16:14).

PRINCIPLE:

A major purpose for all Christians is to exalt the Lord Jesus with our lives.

APPLICATION:

We should take a lesson from the Holy Spirit’s exaltation of the Lord Jesus. The purpose of the Holy Spirit is to magnify the Lord Jesus.

We cannot make too much of the Lord Jesus. The better we know Him, the more we love Him. The more we love a person, the more we will do for them. You will not do much for them if you don’t love them. People can tell what we think of them by what we do for them. We can talk about loving the Lord Jesus, but it is just talk until we show it in what we do for Him. We do not count it a chore when we do something for someone because we love them. On the other hand, we count it a blessing.
