The deception of the false teachers aimed at alluring others into their system. The word “enticing” originally meant to catch by using bait. The word “enticing” means to lure or entice. False teachers lead people astray because what they said sounded so feasible.
False teachers look for “unstable” people. They look for the naïve and gullible. Some people will swallow anything. Apostates get their victims from untaught or poorly taught Christians. They are susceptible to error. Religion often appeals to them more than truth.
Eph 4:14, “…that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting…”
Jas 1:6-8, “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
PRINCIPLE:
Stability comes through knowing God’s Word.
APPLICATION:
Do you blow hot then blow cold? You are enthusiastic about God’s will one week, and the next week you live in defeat. If you are this way, you are an excellent candidate for false teaching. They look for people like you.
Religious con men will take you into their confidence. By this, they sell you a bill of goods. They never say everything they believe. They make it sound like they are evangelical in belief. You do not find out what they believe until you buy into their system. Superficial types will be swept away by the superficial.
Some people are swept into false doctrine because they were hurt in the church. They are unhappy with the leadership or with what someone said about them. Someone will meet them and appeal to their hurts. These people are prime targets for entering into error.
False teachers constantly peddle diabolical propaganda on every hand. The propaganda sounds so feasible. People buy into appearance hook, line, and sinker. The only way to gain stability of the soul is to establish ourselves in the Word of God.
