“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb”
Chapter 21 began the description of the eternal state and continues until verse five of this chapter. The first two verses of chapter 22 give us symbols of eternal life.
And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
The angel shows John the “pure river of water of life.” This is water of holiness and purity coming directly from the throne of God and of the Lamb. The river of holiness gives life.
“Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power” (1 Corinthians 15:24).
We should not confuse this river with the river coming from the Millennial temple (Ezekiel 47:1,12). Nor should we confuse this river from the river flowing from Jerusalem in the Millennium (Zechariah 14:8).
The water supply of a city is of vital importance. This was especially true in Palestine, where the land is so arid. Men build cities where they are sure there is adequate water supply. There is special refreshment coming from the throne of God in the New Jerusalem. God is the source of vitality for eternal life.
Principle:
In the eternal state, the throne of God is our source of vitality.
Application:
God is the source of life in eternity. God will give us abundant life in the eternal state.
