“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last”
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last”
Jesus describes Himself with three pairs of titles. All three sets of titles affirm the same thing: that Jesus is eternal (1:4, 8, 17; 2:8; 21:6). The assertion of His eternity means that we can count on Him fulfilling His promise. He will deliver on what He promises. Jesus consummates and concludes all things. He is God almighty.
Jesus is God’s last word to us.
“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” (Hebrews 1:1-4).
Principle:
God will be true to His promises.
Application:
We can count on Jesus to be true to Himself. He will deliver on His promises. We have a title to eternity because of Christ. We know that when we arrive in Heaven, God will welcome us.
hello my friend , will you give me please an explanation of Revelation ch 22:8-9-10, with verse 13; where the angel says to John am your fellow-slave do not worship me, do worship God.
And than in verse 13 he says to John ,”I am the Alpha and the Omega”, is he the same person??? the angel (me personally i do not think so).
thank you, I will wait for your answer
God bless

Mike, The angel in this verse is the angel of this passage: http://versebyversecommentary.com/1999/02/08/revelation-219-11/ The angel of 21:9 is not the sovereign Son of God of 22:13. Compare chapter one where Jesus is described as Alpha and Omega.
Christ started all things and He is the consumation of all things, AM I RIGHT TO CALL HIM THE ALMIGHTY GOD? The first and the last.
Edward, it is right to call Christ "almighty God" since He indeed is the originator and consummator of all things.
What is the purpose of three titles meaning the same thing? Is it for emphasis only? My Bible has First and Last capitalized. Is that significant? Were the names listed in different languages perhaps? I understand that He is eternal, just curious about the three lists of names.
Dan, I believe the reason is emphasis. With each duality he builds greater wonder in the eternality of the Son of God. He is indeed God almighty.
Dan, the Greek does not capitalize these terms. That is a choice of the translator. I do believe they are appropriate if we take the context in view. All terms are in the Greek.
