“Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.”
defile the flesh,
The second earmark is that apostates “defile the flesh.” The word “defile” occurs only in our passage, Titus 1:15, and Hebrews 12:15. “Defile” means contaminate, stain, corrupt. “Flesh” does not mean skin but our capacity for human life. The idea is to pollute the person. Religious apostates engage in a philosophy of hedonism. As long as it feels good, it is OK to do it.
PRINCIPLE:
Apostasy pollutes the person.
APPLICATION:
Every believer has two capacities, a divine capacity, and a sin capacity. The believer can allow his sin capacity to take predominance. When this happens, the believer becomes a defiled person. This will leave an apostate pockmark on us.
