“Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.”
The third earmark of apostasy is a rejection of authority.
The word “reject” means to thwart the efficacy of anything, nullify, make void, frustrate. “Authority” is dominion and has the idea of constituted authorities. These false teachers try to nullify God’s sovereign and constituted authority in His Word. Rejection of all forms of authority is a big characteristic among apostates. Religious systems that deny the authority of the Bible and authorities in society have built-in chaos.
Apostates are anarchists.
Apostates disregard the authority of the Bible and civil government. They do not believe in government by law, and they do not believe in accepting the propositions of Scripture. No institution can operate without authority, whether it is in the field of sports, government, or business. If a football player does not respect the coach, then the team is in trouble. This is especially important in the area of church ministries. If there is no respect for leadership, then the church cannot accomplish its goals.
