25For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,
Jesus spoke of two obstacles to discipleship: (1) the desire to save self from problems and (2) desire for wealth. The “life” in this phrase is earthly, physical life. We need to count the cost in terms of our personal lives.
but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
Believers who lose their lives for Jesus’ sake will find fulfillment in life. This is a life that transcends death.
PRINCIPLE:
True spiritual life is not found in sacrificial devotion to some cause, but only in sacrifice to Jesus.
APPLICATION:
Those who live for Christ have reached the highest self-appraisal. Those who seek to preserve their lives above everything lose their lives.
