Read Introduction to Romans

15 So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.

15 So, as much as is in me,

Paul viewed himself as under an overwhelming duty to carry the gospel to Rome. The debtor was now ready to pay his debt.

I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.

The word “ready” is willing, eager. Paul did not feel a false obligation to preach the gospel. He was eager to do it. He would discharge his debt to Rome and the Roman church.

PRINCIPLE:

Christian obligation comes from grace, not law.

APPLICATION:

Sometimes the sense of obligation raises feelings of disgruntlement and dissatisfaction with the mission before us. However, those with burning conviction and certainty of the gospel delight in sharing the message. Passion drives acceptance of responsibility. Nothing delights our soul like leading someone to Christ.
