29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,  

 

maliciousness;

The Greek word here for “maliciousness” occurs nowhere else in the Greek New Testament. This word has the ideas of bad, evil mischief, malignity. Maliciousness is a disposition that produces an evil action. A malicious person is ill natured and habitually takes everything with an evil connotation. He puts a negative interpretation on the action of others, causing them in turn to suspect evil in yet others.

PRINCIPLE:

Maliciousness turns the soul for the worse.

APPLICATION:

Maliciousness is the turn of the soul for the worse. This is one’s orientation. Other sins flourish in the context of maliciousness. Some people are vicious toward others; they have a disposition to hurt others.
