murder,

There is a distinction between killing a person and murdering a person. “Murder” is the unlawful taking of life. This is the ultimate outcome of envy and other attitudinal sins. Murder also includes mental murder.

PRINCIPLE:

Envy is at the heart of many murders.

APPLICATION:

Envy was the cause of Cain’s murdering his brother Abel (Ge 4:1-8; 1 Jn 3:12). Those who opposed Christ demanded His crucifixion because of envy. Envy brought the brothers of Joseph to attempt to put him to death (Ge 37:4,18).
