19 in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
19 in mighty signs and wonders,
God performed two kinds of miracles through Paul:
“signs,” miracles that point to the authenticity of something, and
”wonders,” the extraordinary character of a miracle.
A “sign” is a miracle that points to something; it signifies biblical truth. A “wonder” is a miracle that works wonders. Miracles authenticate God’s truth and work through His servants.
by the power of the Spirit of God,
The Holy Spirit performed the miracles worked through Paul.
“So that” indicates the result of the Holy Spirit’s work through Paul (v. 18).
from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum
The geographical location of “Illyricum” is approximately today’s Bosnia and Croatia (northwest of Greece). The span of Paul’s ministry was far reaching among the Gentiles, consisting of an arc from Jerusalem to southern Europe.
I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
Paul completed the preaching of the gospel in the arc of ministry listed in the previous phrase. This does not mean that he preached the gospel to every single person in that geographical area but rather that he executed his office as an apostle in that part of the world.
Christian leaders must think strategically about their ministry.
Strategically Paul ministered first to the cities. If we want to reach the villages, we do it first through the cities. He was a pioneer trailblazer in opening up new geographical areas to the gospel.
