13 Greet Rufus,
Here is a greeting to both Rufus and his mother. Rufus might have been the son of the man who carried the cross of Christ, a North African, the son of Simon of Cyrene (Mark 15:21). The name “Rufus” was a very common slave name.
chosen in the Lord,
Every believer is “chosen in the Lord” as a Christian. However, “chosen” in this context means eminent, with the idea of holding distinction. The Roman church chose Rufus for some special task.
and his mother and mine.
Rufus’s mother might have met Paul in his need when his own family rejected him upon his becoming a Christian.
PRINCIPLE:
Some Christians are distinguished in their service for the Lord.
APPLICATION:
Some Christians are extraordinary in their service for the Lord. There are those who are extraordinary choices to serve the Lord. I think we all can single out Christians who are special servants of the Lord.
