Read Introduction to Titus

2 that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;

sound in faith [body of doctrine],

Paul used “sound” in the previous verse for doctrine. Here he used it in regards to faith. We are to have a healthy faith. We can trust God in whatever situation we may encounter.

Older men were to be sound in three areas: in faith, in love, and in patience.

PRINCIPLE:

Maturity requires a healthy faith.

APPLICATION:

Immature believers will inevitably be sick in their faith. Immaturity loses confidence in God’s plan for their lives. These people do not trust God’s wisdom or His goodness. They doubt the promises of God and do not claim them for what they face. Maturity requires a healthy faith—a faith that trusts the sufficiency of God’s Word.
