Read Introduction to Titus

7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,

Titus was himself to be an example to young men (vv. 7-8).

7 in all things showing yourself [Titus] to be a pattern of good works;

“Yourself” is emphatic. Paul now speaks to Titus directly. Titus must make it a high priority to be an example of good works to young men in Crete. Much teaching is caught as well as taught.

“Pattern” means example. Titus was to model what he taught young men otherwise these men will deem him a hypocrite. Paul challenged others to follow his example (1 Co 11:1; Phil 3:17; 2 Th 3:9).

“Good” refers to the good that is noble or excellent. Titus’s works were to reflect what he taught.

PRINCIPLE:

We to manifest God’s grace to the world.

APPLICATION:

Good works ultimately follow from our salvation and God’s grace. What we do must be tangible to the world. What are you doing for God? God expects us to do something for Him out of gratitude for His grace in our lives. We can find something to do that fits our health, gifts, age or situation in life.

Eph 2: 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
