Read Introduction to Ephesians

10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)

Verse 10 gives the chronological order of Christ’s descent to earth and ascent to heaven.

He who descended is also the One who ascended

Jesus who descended to earth and death is nonetheless the One who ascended to heaven.

far above all the heavens,

Jesus ascended to the Father’s right hand as a theocratic King, to the throne of God over all the universe.

that He might fill all things.)

Jesus filled all covenants and prophecies of Scripture. Filling “all things” has to do with Jesus’ finished work. The result of that work made it possible for God to fully accept those who believe on Jesus to gain the rights of God’s presence. This phrase may also mean that Jesus returned to His sovereign theocratic rule over the universe (Co 1:18).

PRINCIPLE:

The effect of Christ’s mediatorial work on earth had the effect of God’s full embrace of us when we go to heaven.

APPLICATION:

When the believer goes to heaven, it is an instantaneous, non-stop process. Angels will escort him or her to glory (He 1:14).

Death is one appointment we will keep for sure (He 9:27). Do you have the assurance that when death strikes your body you will go to heaven? Jesus provides death insurance.
