25 Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.
for we are members of one another [another of the same kind].
The reason we speak truth with fellow Christians around us is that we are members of the body of Christ (4:16; 1 Co 12:12-27). The physical body cannot injure its hand without hurting the entire body. Christians cannot lie to one another without hurting the church.
Ro 12: 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
PRINCIPLE:
Lying undermines vibrant relationships in the church.
APPLICATION:
Lies undermine our relationship with others. Often lying attempts to impress others to gain recognition in the Christian herd.
Since truth is correspondence with facts, we align ourselves accurately with God and others. If lies enter the equation, then we misalign with the core integrity of Christianity. Healthy relationships cannot exist without dealing in truth with one another. We speak the truth for our Lord’s sake.
