Read Introduction to Ephesians

30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

Verse 30 assigns the reason for Christ acting toward the church as a man does his body.

Verse 30 gives the reason why Christ relates to His church in the way He does. We are members of His body. There is a spiritual union between Christ and the church.

we are members of His body,

Christians are propagated by believing in Christ, making us members of His body, the church. There is a solidarity between the believer and Christ.

The word “members” is emphatic in the Greek, implying that we are what we are because of Christ.

of His flesh and of His bones.

Christians have come to know the real, physical human being of Christ who existed on earth.

Just as Christ and the church have a community of life together, so the husband and wife have community of life together.

God propagates us spiritually now and physically hereafter. Regeneration is in every respect the work of Christ. As Christians have new life by regeneration in Christ, so husband and wife have a community of life together. There is an intimacy with husband and wife like no other institution in society.
