28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men,

 

The story here shifts to the woman’s message to the men of her city. Instead of bringing water to her town, she brought a message for their souls.

The woman then left her waterpot,

The woman left her water jar at the well. She abandoned her original purpose of drawing water and was now concerned about living or eternal water rather than physical water. Her excitement changed her priorities. The waterpot would slow her down. She would come back to get it when she returned with the people of Samaria.

went her way into the city,

The woman was zealous about telling the story of Jesus.

and said to the men [plural],

The woman’s account of her life was also the chronicle of her people’s story.

PRINCIPLE:

When people know Christ, they are transported to a greater reality.

APPLICATION:

When Christ grips the heart, testimony will flow freely from there. All other pursuits in life fade into the background.
