Read Introduction to John

44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

and I [Jesus, emphatic] will raise him up at the last day.

The apostle John repeated this sentence four times in chapter 6 (vv. 39, 40, 44, 54). We receive eternal life immediately upon believing (Jn 3:36), and the resurrection of the body consummates salvation at a future point.

For the third time in this chapter we have a reference to raising up at the last day (Jn 6:39, 40). It is Jesus’ role to raise believers up at the last day.

PRINCIPLE:

Jesus will personally resurrect the believer in the future.

APPLICATION:

The grave is not the bleak, black terminus of our existence. Jesus will raise not only our souls but our bodies to be with Him. In heaven He will give the believer a physical body just like His resurrected earthly body (Php 3:21).
