46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
46 I [emphatic] have come as a light into the world,
Jesus illumines what the Father is all about. The emphatic “I” indicates that it is He and especially He that came to be the light of the world (Jn 8:12). He existed before He was born; He eternally existed with the Father as the Son.
that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
God will open the world of relationship with Himself to the person who believes in Jesus. Satan’s kingdom is the kingdom of darkness, but Jesus’ kingdom is the kingdom of light or revelation of God. People are in darkness until they come to Christ.
Darkness is the condition of non-believers. They operate under the sphere of Satan’s influence.
PRINCIPLE:
Jesus dispels darkness by revealing the course to eternal life.
APPLICATION:
God’s promises are strictly for believers. Those who do not believe remain in darkness. Jesus coming as a “light into the world” means that He is the revealer of God and the way to salvation (Jn 1:18; 8:12). As the light He dispels darkness of untruth.
