Read Introduction to John

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

and the life.

“Life” here is not the spirit that animates our body. It is not the soul (mind, emotion and will). The idea here is life set in opposition to death. He is eternal life. Spiritual death is separation from God. Eternal life is eternal fellowship with Him.

Jesus has eternal life and He offers that life to all who trust Him for it. However, those who would receive His “life” must be regenerated by redemption. Jesus is eternal life and gives His life to those who believe on Him (Jn 1:4; 3:15; 11:25).

Jesus has divine life; He is the only source of eternal existence. Our natural life carries death within it, separation from God. However, when people believe in Jesus, they have life eternal in union with Him (Jn 3:15, 16). He is in us and we in Him. Jesus emancipated every believer from eternal death (Jn 3:36; 5:24).

PRINCIPLE:

To know Jesus is to experience eternal life.

APPLICATION:

Jesus exclusively holds access to eternal life. Jesus said that He was the life whereby we live eternally. Jesus was no mere example of life. He did not merely show us how to live life. He was and is eternal life itself. He exclusively holds access to eternal life. If God is one or absolute, there cannot be many ways to heaven if God is to maintain His integrity.

Sin brings spiritual death or eternal separation from God. Jesus is eternal life and He gives those who believe in Him and His work eternal life. He is eternal life and He gives eternal life. He reunites us to God by His death on the cross. This reunites us with God and gives us eternal life, spiritual life (Jn 3:16; 5:25,40; 10:15; 12:24; 11:25).
