7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, βIt is the Lord!β Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. 8 But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. 9 Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.
21:7
Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter,
The “disciple whom Jesus loved” is John the apostle who wrote this gospel.
βIt is the Lord!β
The apostle John recognized that it was Jesus who told them how to fish with success. He referred to his Master as “Lord.”
Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea.
Peter had removed his outer garment for more freedom to fish. He quickly put on this garment and dove into the Sea of Galilee to swim to Jesus. This was the typical impulsive Peter.
21:8
But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish.
The boat was a little more than 100 yards from land.
21:9
Then, as soon as they had come to land,
The six disciples dragged the fish toward the shore. When they came close enough, they could make out details of what Jesus was doing.
they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.
Jesus had made breakfast of fish and bread for the apostles.
