13 Therefore we have been comforted in your comfort. And we rejoiced exceedingly more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

 

13 Therefore we have been comforted [encouraged] in your comfort.

The church’s repentance encouraged Paul about their renewed fellowship.

And we rejoiced exceedingly more for the joy of Titus,

Titus was Paul’s representative to the Corinthian church. The apostle was concerned about the positive reception of his coworker.

because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

Titus was refreshed by his visit to Corinth. He saw the church’s positive response to Paul’s letter.

PRINCIPLE:

True comfort is reciprocal.

APPLICATION:

There is a contagious joy in rejoicing with others, especially those with whom we have had a shattered relationship. The mark of genuine repentance is to correct the harm we put on people.

The pastor is often encouraged by the person he visits in the hospital. The joy of others can augment our joy.
