8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.
8 For we can do nothing against the truth,
Paul was powerless against the truth of the situation at Corinth. The facts would stand for themselves. He could not change the reality of the case to make it easier on both his team and the church.
but for the truth.
Truth makes its own way against lies. Truth cannot change, although unpalatable to some Corinthians. Facts could not adjust to please the church with their sin and error. The apostle’s desire was for the truth to prevail, not whether he was proven correct or not. He had no wish to validate his apostolic authority for its own sake.
PRINCIPLE:
Every Christian leader must lead with integrity.
APPLICATION:
A pastor cannot do anything against the truth even if he is misunderstood at times. He can only act on behalf of the facts so that he stays in line with God’s Word. This does not mean that he ministers out of retaliation or bitterness but for the spiritual wellbeing of his people.
