25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
In verses 25-34, we have the conversion of the Philippian jailer.
16:25
But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns to God in prison at midnight. They did not lament their circumstance but rejoiced in it.
PRINCIPLE:
Joy does not depend on circumstance.
APPLICATION:
Believers who trust God can rejoice during trial. Paul challenged the Philippian church to “rejoice in the Lord always [under any circumstance, Php 4:4].” He challenged the Thessalonians to “rejoice evermore” (1 Th 5:16). The reason the gospel team of Paul and Silas could rejoice in prison is they had confidence in a sovereign God taking care of them (Ro 8:28). Their view of God gave them stability under any situation.
