8:11
“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Jesus explained that the seed in the parable represented the Word of God, especially the teaching of Jesus.
Jesus had been sowing the seed of the Word of God, and in the next chapter, He would challenge His disciples to do the same (Lu 9:1-6). They were to understand, first and foremost, the importance of both the sowing and the application of it to one’s life. They needed to understand the different responses to the Word and what keeps people from engaging with it fully, represented by four distinct kinds of soil.
PRINCIPLE:
The fate of the Word in one’s life depends on the heart’s response to it.
APPLICATION:
Faith takes nurturing, and one must be receptive to the Word of God to grow. Genuine faith shows its reality over time. It takes time to take hold or bear fruit. Response to the Word is a process.
