8 But to the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
A scepter of righteousness [straightness, uprightness] is the scepter of Your kingdom.
A king holds a “scepter” in his hand, symbolizing royal authority. The scepter is the badge of authority and royalty. The Lord is the supreme sovereign. He extends the scepter to invite people to approach His throne.
The Greek word “righteousness” is not the normal word for righteousness but carries the idea of straightness. The Son’s rule is straight or just. He rules the universe as God and King. As King Jesus, He will rule both in the Millennial Kingdom and in the eternal kingdom. His kingdom will have eternal stability. The Son will exercise the administration of His kingdom with perfect righteousness.
The Son will rule as God with approachable authority and justice.
As high as the angels are in the divine administration of the universe, they are far inferior to the supremacy of the Son. The Son stands superior to angels because He is the royal sovereign to be worshipped.
We live in a day of injustice, but King Jesus, King of the World, will personally set straight all the injustices of the world.
