13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
If God’s Word reveals everything about us, then it follows that God knows everything we do. We cannot hide from Him.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight,
No one can hide from an omniscient God. There is a close connection between the person of God and His Word.
The words “no creature” are emphatic. There is no one in all creation whatsoever that can hide from God. After all, He created all things. No one can keep their private thoughts to themselves.
but all things are naked [bare] and open to the eyes of Him
God examines everything in the life of the believer; nothing is hidden from His eyes. They are “open” or laid bare before Him. “Naked” means that every person is completely exposed to God.
to whom we must give account.
Each person will account for what they have done before God. There is a reckoning that each Christian must face before God. God is in the process of auditing everything we do.
No one can conceal anything from God.
Each Christian will give account to God at the Judgment Seat of Christ (Ro 14:10-12; 2 Co 5:10). Everything about us is bare before God. We cannot hide secret sins from God. He knows what we did better than we do. God is all-seeing; nothing is hidden from Him. God sweeps away all pretext and pretension (1 Co 4:5). All superficial attempts we make to defend ourselves are of no avail.
It is possible to subjectively hide our sins from ourselves. We need something objective to examine our souls. We need to come to grips with the extent of God’s discernment. We are completely exposed to Him. God’s method for doing this is His Word. That is why we should ask God to search us by His Word (Psalm 139:1-3).
God’s Word exposes us to what we are. It will render us defenseless in the light of who God is. His Word sees in us what other things cannot see. It searches our heart and lays bare our motives. When we read it, we see things in ourselves that we have rationalized away. There is nothing private that we can hide from God. God does not tolerate indifference to His promises.
One day God will bring to light everything hidden. He will expose our hearts for what they are. Those who walk with God will receive His praise (1 Co 4:5).
