Read Introduction to Hebrews

6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,

Verses 6-11 link the arguments in the first five verses to a conclusion.

6 Since therefore

These words connect this verse with verse 5. This linkage introduces the conclusion to the preceding argument. God rest continues to be available.

it remains that some must enter it,

God did not revoke His promise to Israel even if some did not claim it. Although those who originally came out of Egypt never entered the Promised Land their children did enter.

and those to whom [Israelites] it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,

Those to whom the promise was first given were the original Israelites who came out of Egypt (He 3:17).

“Disobedience” is the reason Israel did not enter God’s rest (He 3:18). “Disobedience” is failure to apply God’s promises to experience.

PRINCIPLE:

Application of God’s Word to experience is at the heart of obedience to Him.

APPLICATION:

God rest still existed for Israel, but they did not take advantage of it. It is a promised that remained unfulfilled. God’s rests existed since creation and designed it for those who believe in Him.
